Summer’s finally in full swing. It’s the season for fruit – fruit salads, fruit cocktails, iced fruit tea…I could go on! It’s important to remember though, that during this time our skin and hair are fully exposed to the sun. Here are a few tips on how our five a day can also be great for preventing dryness and obtaining that all over summer glow.
Peels & Pearly Whites
Aside from being one of your five a day, bananas also have another plus side. Before you rush to throw away the peel, you might be surprise to find that it is a in fact a natural teeth whitener. Simply rub the peel against your teeth daily, and you’ll start noticing the effects within a couple of weeks. You can thank the high potassium, magnesium, and manganese levels for that!
Weekly ACV (or apple, cider, vinegar) rinses are a great way to revitalise your hair. The high levels of acidity complement perfectly the PH balance of your locks, leaving them shiny and healthy-looking. Mix 1 part ACV with 4-6 parts water and massage thoroughly into your scalp before rinsing.
Kiwis make great cleansers and are high in vitamin C, not to mention the seeds act as natural exfoliators. Just take a kiwi, mix it in the blender or mash it up into a pulp, and distribute easily around your face. Wash off as you would a normal cleanser and store in the fridge. You can mixt it up a bit by adding yoghurt or almond oil.
Lemon & Honey Face Mask
Making your own face mask has many benefits. Skip the chemicals and confusing ingredients and go all-natural. Not only is it better for your skin, it’s a lot better on your purse strings. Remove dead skin, moisturise, and brighten your complexion with 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and ½ tablespoon of sugar. Simply mix the ingredients together in a bowl, apply to your face and rinse with cold water.
Rosewater & Coconut Bath
For ultimate relaxation after a long day, ditch the bubble-bath and try something just as reenergising. The beautiful naturally scented rosewater has great calming effects and when mixed with the creamy, coconut milk, the day’s stresses will soon melt away. Use ½ cup of coconut milk with the same amount of rosewater.
