The collaboration comes after the COP21 environmental conference in Paris, where Adidas and Parley decided to go one step further than they did last summer, when they created a running shoe with an upper made from ocean waste.
Adidas Executive board member, Eric Liedtke stated;
“Together with the network of Parley for the Oceans we have started taking action and creating new sustainable materials and innovations for athletes.”
This time, a new high performance running shoe, (which is currently just a concept that may or may not reach stores), will be made using a 3D printed ocean plastic mid sole, using recycled gill nets and polyester, which is melted down to produce a flexible, cushiony sole.
This environmentally friendly design comes after Adidas’s promise to phase out the use of plastic bags in store, by 2016.The company has also stopped using plastic bottle at its headquarters in Germany.
