Adidas & Parley Introduce World’s First Trainers Made From Ocean Waste

Adidas Parley Close Up

In a previous blog, we mentioned how Adidas’s sustainable ventures had led the sportswear giant to team up with Parley for the Oceans, in order to recycle ocean waste into material for new designs.

Now the wait is over and Adidas & Parley are making waves with a team up that introduces a new special edition of the ‘Ultra Boost’ trainer, made from reclaimed ocean waste.

The prototype was unveiled on Monday at the United Nations general assembly, as it was explained that the wavy upper shoe is made entirely from plastic yarns and filaments. This includes illegal deep sea gillnets, which were fished out by Parley’s partner organisation Sea Shepherd, which tracked an illegal poaching vessel for 110 days in West Africa.

“Our objective is to boost public awareness & to inspire new collaborations that can contribute to protect & preserve the oceans. We are extremely proud that adidas is joining us in this mission & is putting its creative force behind this partnership to show that it is possible to turn ocean plastic into something cool”.

Well Parley have definitely reeled us in with this Adidas partnership! Hopefully other brands will come forward to show how the future lies with zero waste design.
