The Spring/Summer looks are hitting the stores, and one collection that stands out in particular is Anthropologie‘s ‘Legend & Song’. Inspired by East Africa, the vivid, patterned designs are a nod towards traditional dress, while the design and production team visited Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania to partner with local artisans.
“what if we were to collaborate with artisans from Africa in a way that showcased and modernized the crafts we have so long admired?”
Working with Bhavana World Project, who connects US companies with East African entrepreneurs and US AID, the Anthropologie team were able to establish relationships with local designers and cooperatives that specialise in the traditional clothing styles needed for their summer line.
Africa is renowned for its brilliantly rich textiles and bold aesthetic, from hand woven accessories to dazzling dyed prints, so to go straight to the source gives this new collection a real sense of authenticity, plus clothes are always more interesting when there’s a unique story behind them!
The collection features brightly beaded necklaces, statement print dresses and Batik bags. Fingers crossed we see these items hit the UK, but I have a feeling that if they do, they won’t be sticking around for long!…
