For SS14, Maison Martin Margiela‘s couture artisanal line was a celebration of past times, detail and storytelling, using traditional and immaculate craftsmanship. With the ethos ‘one man’s trash is another’s treasure”, this season saw a stunning spectacle of repurposed, remade, and beautifully hand-crafted statement pieces, dripping with texture, detail and vivid colours, eccentrically combining a number of cultures and eras.
As with all couture shows, these designs were the product of hours of hand crafting, depicting a stark contrast against the world of mass produced garments, and delving into a world of immaculate creativity and imagination.
Not for the shy and retiring, the eclectic show was centralised around the theme of collecting and repurpose. From trousers embellished in glitzy sequins, to elaborate tattoo inspired detailing and bold 50’s style prints, it was a true celebration of off-the-wall glamour.
