Amongst all the fashion week shows, there are always a sprinkling of socially conscious labels known for their association with sustainability, just as much as their aesthetics. One of those names is NY based Edun, owned by philanthropist and musician Bono, and his wife.
The ethical label has shown continual support for Africa by investing in artisanal craftsmanship and manufacturing 85% of their collections within the continent.
This season, as always there were hints of african influence, but the focus was primarily on texture and volume, complete with earthy tones.
Having been produced predominantly in Kenya and Madagascar, the collection did however feature subtle nods to Africa such as traditional woven african style graphic blankets.
At the show Chelsea Clinton told the Daily Mail (in praise of the fashion label) “It’s not handouts. Its core mission is to give people work. That’s really the ethos.”
