Her campaigns are never dull, known for their off-beat and quirky aesthetic, but this season the new Karen Walker eyewear series brings a whole new level of cool. Lensed by Derek Henderson, the Walker team worked closely with the Ethical Fashion Initiative, including artisans from Kenya, who feature as the stars of the season, modelling the product themselves.
With their motto ‘not charity, just work’, the EFI, who has worked with the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Sass & Bide, have always placed fairness and sustainability first when it comes to the ethos of the company.
Ethics and traditional craftsmanship are embedded into every aspect of the campaign, even the stunning, detailed screen-printed eyewear pouches have been hand made from local materials.
Shot in a small village 20 minutes from Nairobi, Derek Henderson (a close friend and long term collaborator of Walkers), worked against a breathtaking landscape, creating emotive visuals that veer away from the typical glossy mag glamour, delving into a world of raw beauty, and capturing an empowering sense of community.
