One to watch British designer Katie Jones has long been a favourite of ours for her eccentric kitsch knitwear and playful crochet aesthetic. Jones specialises in luxury knits and bringing traditional craftsmanship to a new generation, through reworking consumer waste and designer surplus.
Each piece is a labor of love and embraces her Granny’s vision of making something beautiful from nothing. Katie instills a bit of ‘make do and mend’ attitude into every original upcycled piece handmade in East London.
For her SS15, the upcycling knitwear designer embraces pyschedelic 70s style with her collection ‘Granny Takes A Trip.’ Jones owes a lot to her own granny, who taught her the basics of knitting and crochet, sparking her passion for knitwear and handcrafted design. Sourcing her yarn from Manchester, Jones’s summer collection is vibrant quirky and endearingly offbeat – just like Jones herself.
Visually, Jones’s designs are an explosion of colour, with a eastern Europe meets Mexico twist of pom poms, pinata bags and boho flared sleeves. Wear her designs together for a fun, clashing fusion of mix and match or singularly, where you can see the detail and stunning intricacy of each piece.
