Portland based closed loop design company Looptworks and Alaska Airlines, have combined forces for a collection of upcycled leather accessories, made from recycled plane seats. The mission – to inspire change within an industry that causes great environmental damage.
“The textile industry is the second dirtiest industry in the world behind oil – we need innovation to change.”
From laptop sleeves, to wallets, cross bodies, totes and messengers, the collection includes many everyday essential items, made from Alaska Airline’s regional carrier Horizon Air.
Along with the unique and practical design, the eco-friendly manufacturing processes used mean that no new leather is needed, saving 1,500 gallons of water per item. Just one pound of leather requires an incredible 2,109 gallons of water to create.
“From reducing flight emissions, to improving the energy efficiency of its buildings, to implementing innovative recycling programs, Alaska strives to keep our planet healthy”
In the past, Looptworks has collaborated with many conscious brands such as Patagonia, Southwest Airlines and Langlitz Leathers. The new Carry On collection ranges from $65-230. Shop the full collection here.
