Maison Margiela is a fashion house known for its eclectic image and avant garde aesthetic. This is a high end label that explores creativity to its deepest depths. As typical with couture season, the newly appointed John Galliano kept within the theme of artisanal craftsmanship, fusing vintage fabrics with discarded objects.
Many designs were embellished with shells, jewels, oysters and pearls, giving the collection a buried treasure/shipwrecked theme when combined with the flowing vintage fabrics and fishnet and seabed, barnacle sleeve detailing. Other pieces were refined and polished, showing off Galliano’s flair for tailoring and beautiful cuts.
It was a powerful comeback statement for Galliano, and a glimpse of skillfull craftsmanship at its best.
