High end trainer company Nat-2 has created the world’s first vegan shoe made from wood. Don’t worry about getting splints in your foot though, as these trainers are just as comfortable and flexible as any other on the market. The German brand, which was established by a 6th generation shoe maker, demonstrates how far eco friendly design has progressed, and the innovation involved.
With high top and low top lace ups in a variety of colours and wooden tones, the shoe’s upper is made from real 100% sustainable SFC certified wood, including ash, birch, maple, walnut, cherry, elm and beech. Also made sustainably, the interior features anti-bacterial soft padded real cork insole, while the outsides are made from real rubber. The final shoe is made in a factory in Italy, which meets fair labour standards.
The trainers are designed using a process which involves binding wood to organic cotton, which is then vector engraved, making the material soft and flexible. The trainers will be available online soon, so watch this space!
