A sticky plant-based fibre called Ioncell-F, made from an ion liquid solution and wood cellulose, has been transformed into a textile through an advanced, highly technical process (shown in the video below).
The ion liquid solution and cellulose fibre form a very strong bond, ideal for textile manufacturing, and of course, the process is entirely natural.
This super sustainable fabric is extremely low maintenance. No water is needed to aid its growth, such as in cotton, nor does it release any hazardous toxic chemicals, placing it up there with the likes of bamboo and hemp for its high sustainability factor. This is a major step forward for socially conscious designers who’s goal to bring sustainable fashion to the mainstream through easy production could now be that much closer to achieving.
