If you’re one of the many trying to detox this Jan, then that also means going toxic free with your beauty and skincare routine. Nowadays 63% of people are more on the ball about natural vs non natural personal care ingredients.
But where do you start? Confusing ingredients are a pain to deal with, but luckily we’ve got the perfect guide to transition you into a healthier lifestyle.
Check the Label
Products labelled ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ can sometimes be deceiving. To tell if a product is really good for your skin, checking the first 5 listed ingredients is the best indicator. If it’s full of natural oils and waxes then great! The higher up the list an ingredient is, the more of it is added in the bottle.
These synthetic products do nothing for your skin, even though they may appear to make it glow. They make you feel good from the inside, but they are not giving your skin any benefits from the inside. These include mineral oil (petroleum), acetone, sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens, PEGs, (methyl, butyl, propyl, etc), and fragrances.
Checking the NPA’s website is a great source to start with and gain some reliable info. The website lists all ingredients certified by the Natural Products Seal. Some of the brands approved by the NPA include Burt’s Bees, Aubrey Organics, Yes to Carrots and Wet & Wild.
Also look for the leaping bunny logo, to ensure your products are also cruelty free. If you’re still not sure on what products are best, natural beauty blogs are a great help, as well as your local health food shop.
