NY based designer Laura Siegel has teamed up with Sreepur Village Organisation, for Project 1127 – a collection of handwoven cotton scarves, in honour of the Victims of the Rana Plaza factory collapse three years ago – the tragedy that sparked Fashion Revolution.
1127 represents the exact number of Rana Plaza victims killed on April24th 2013, and is also the number of handmade scarves within the collection. Each design is 100 % sustainable, and even features material taken from recycled silk saris.
Siegel employed artisans in rural India, while working with photographer Miguel Jacob, to shoot an “ongoing series of influencers” wearing her scarves in various ways. Over 60 people have been photographed so far, including blogger Leandra Medine and Parson’s Fashion School dean Simon Collins.
Proceeds from the project will go towards families of the victims of that revolutionary day.
