Stella Jean has always been a favourite of ATTYRE’s, not just for the mix of contemporary stripes and structures with traditional east African print, that makes her brand such an international hit, but for the label’s dedication towards driving sustainability forward.
As part of the International Trade Centre’s Ethical Fashion Initiative, the luxury fashion line supports a fair industry by helping African and Haitian women to work their way out of poverty through learning artisanal skills.
Stella hails from Haiti herself, so you can see why her passion lies with handcrafted woven fabrics, which feature throughout her designs. Stella works specifically with weavers in Ouagadougou to help weave her personal heritage into each season’s designs.
Now based in Italy, she naturally incorporates western influences, mixing checks and stripes into each collection, marking her signature look.
For SS14 layering and accessorising play an important role as long sleeved t-shirts are worn under short sleeved, and Stella’s mix and match powers come into play. Clashing colours and patterns contrast with detailed ethnic prints and vintage style check headbands complete the multicultural look which gives the label its vitality.
