Sustainable Spotlight: Rosena Sammi

Rosena Sammi NecklacesNamed after the designer herself, Rosena Sammi accessories are not only stunning to look at, with their texture and vibrancy, but they are also bringing to light a serious issue that needs addressing. Sex trafficking in India is a very real problem and many children are forced to work in this soul destroying industry.

Through her brand, Rosena, who is based in the US, is helping to fund the education of women who’ve been rescued from trafficking. In her collection ‘Who’s Sari Now? Rosena transforms old Saris and gives them a new lease of life in the form of bangles, necklaces and hair accessories. Watch this space for a line of bags launching soon!

Who's Sari NowWho’s Sari Now is part of a collaboration with Delhi based  organisation Apne Appe Women Worldwide, to help save women and children from red light districts across India.

Apne Appe started off as a close-knit group of 22 women in the red light regions of Mumbai, who featured in journalist Ruchira Gupta’s documentary ‘The Selling of Innocents.’ They are now an empowered women’s collective. Find out more about them on the official website.
