Our latest upcycle idol Heath Nash, is the perfect example of zero waste design. Counteracting our throwaway mentality, Nash can always find a use for an empty coke bottle or broken wire hanger. Like a magpie, every piece of trash is treasure, and most importantly, is there to be given a quirky new lease of life.
Through the most mundane of objects – a discarded plastic watering can, a discarded milk bottle, Nash is given the material that is the basis for his art. Bits of plastic and handmade wire are miraculously transformed into sculptural delights for the home – from contemporary abstract lamps, to statement bowls.
Nash manages to create something out of what we’d disregard as nothing – and thats great thing about upcycling and sustainable design in general. An empty milk bottle is rarely just that, when you can mold the PVC and weave wire in a way that creates an entirely new and unique aesthetic!
