In 2014, Australian fashion accessories brand MIMCO teamed up with the United Nations Ethical Fashion Initiative (ITC), to begin a project about the makers behind their designs. The collaboration featured a ‘Made in Kenya’ collection, where each item of jewellery was skillfully made by hand, by women in impoverished communities around the country.
The collection showcased the beauty of traditional African styles and techniques such as beading, screen printing and sewing. Documenting every step, MIMCO, tells the story of these women, and their work, in a series of documentaries titled ‘Ethical Fashion Artisans’ (EFA). The latest in the series focuses on a remote community of Maasai women, and how working with EFA has helped them to lead more sustainable, fulfilling lives.
