With winter swiftly approaching, London knit-focused label Wool & The Gang bring an urban edge to traditional, hand-crafted knitwear. Based in London, the talented team of creatives consists of Central Saint Martins graduates Aurelie Popper and Jade Hardwood, who found common ground in their shared passion for knitwear and sustainable design.
Teaming with a group of artisans, the Wool & The Gang ethos is to promote quality craftsmanship and originality, through handcrafted techniques. A visit to their website tells the story of exactly how each garment was made, and who by, in an attempt to encourage familiarity and British manufacturing. Clicking on their section ‘Gang Culture’, and their message is simple yet heartfelt:
“ WE BELIEVE IN FASHION THAT’S #MADEUNIQUE, WITH LOVE AND NEVER FROM A FACTORY.”
The new aw13 collection includes items such as the ‘Snood Dogg’ scarf (geddit?), and my personal favourite, the ‘Over my shoulder’ chunky knit woollen shoulder pads made by Peruvian artisans. Has cosy ever been so cool?
For those of you who like to try your hand at the old needle and thread, now is your chance. The ‘Knit Your Own’ section stocks Peruvian wool in an array of colours ranging from ‘Lipstick Red’ to ‘Magic Mint’.
Think you have what it takes to challenge the team?..
